Description

The Concertgebouw is a concert hall in Amsterdam, one of the best concert venues in the Netherlands. The Concertgebouw building was built in 1883-1888 according to the design of the architect Adolf Leonard van Gendt. The Great Hall opened on April 11, 1888 with a concert of works by Bach, Handel, Beethoven and Wagner. Six months later, the orchestra of the same name debuted at the Concertgebouw, for which the Concertgebouw became its permanent home.

The large hall "Concertgebouw" seats 2037 students, the small hall has 478 seats. The names of 45 composers are engraved on the balconies of the Great Hall, including 12 “local” ones (starting with Orlando di Lasso) and major authors from different countries, up to R. Strauss and I. F. Stravinsky.
